Angel Double Handed Rods
Angel DH 15' #10 4pce
Andy Murray, International Sales and Events Manager, is a leading figure in rod development at Hardy. He virtually lives with double-handed rods and his favourite is the Angel.
One of the qualities he admires most about the rod is its ability to play big fish. It was August, late in the day and I was fishing on the Deschutes River just down from Steely Flats. We knew that silver, fresh-run fish were coming into the Deschutes because of its colder water, cascading down the gorge with endless amounts of oxygen. I was appreciating the stark beauty of the place, the sense of loneliness, while putting out cast after effortless cast with a fourteen-foot Angel. I was rudely woken from my dreams as my fly was hammered by a big fish".
The line simply hissed off. Three times my Mach 2 and its backing was stripped off the Angel reel. This steelhead was fast as a bonefish. It spent more time out of the water than in. It was as though it could run to all four points of the compass at once. It was proud. There was no tiring it. It was like it had the strength of the sea in it. But somehow, because of the Angel rod, I could enjoy the fight and not be afraid of it. Thats the unique strength of the Angel. That's what makes it the best double-hander in the world.
And now, new for 2007, weve brought in the twelve-foot, seven-weight Angel. We realise that there are many people who want a double-hander for jobs where a single-hander just wont do. For steelhead, perhaps, on a big river where long casting and a serious ability to mend line is going to put anyone ahead of the game.
Big sea trout on big rivers. Smaller summer salmon at range. Anywhere in fact you need just that little bit more control than a single-hander can give and yet when you want to retain all the touch and feel of a rod that is truly sensitive to use.
