08/01/10 Happy new
year to all our customers! Our apologies for the lack of recent
reports, but as you are probably aware, the weather has
been against us somewhat! The
cold snap has made angling difficult across the board,
however, those anglers who have braved the conditions have
had some good catches from commercial waters, (after a
spot of ice breaking!) Sea anglers have been taking
advantage of the influx of channel Whiting, from local
beaches, all the way up to Chesil beach.

they are reporting pike up to low doubles. The Basin has
fished well with bags off Silvers up to 20lb as the temperature
falls the basin should come on form even more.
The New lakes are taking shape down by Double Locks so
take a walk down and have a look.

Dace up to 7kg, a few pints of white maggot will get the
fish feeding the waggler or stick seems to be the best
approach.
The canal is still a bit weedy but with these cooler
evenings pulling in the weed should start to dye back.
There are a few reports of pike up to low doubles being
taken on dead baits and lure's.
The New lakes are taking shape now down by Double
Locks.

total the best being 2x 18lb mirrors, he was fishing to
the island point and the left margin. All there fish fell
to furzebay boilies & new popups The

6ft spinning rod well done mate!! The
Mackerel seem to have moved off shore lately but they
will be back in soon, Bass still willing to take a lure
from the local beaches. The ling fishing from the off

08/08/09 The Town
and Tidal stretch of the Exe should be fishing well again
now the river is out of flood. So try the stick or
waggler.
www.furzebraylakes.co.uk
The fishing over the last
three weeks has produced some good catches including
another new 20lb+ fish, which was landed by Steve
Whitworth. Dave Fewings landed a furzebray pb mirror of
19lb 8oz and a smaller fish on a quick overnighter in peg
2. The Noakes party enjoyed some good fishing on
there stay landing 13 fish to 16lb 8oz, and i'm told
they enjoyed several evenings on pads pool catching lots
of small rudd and carp.. The end of the month has seen
fewer anglers visit the lake as once again the rain
comes!!! But the few that braved the rain have
caught, Mr Mills landed 3 fine commons to 14lb 10oz, and
Nick Barr landing one of our fine fully scaled mirrors at
14lb 12oz. There have been
some big bass taken off the beaches this last week mainly
to fish baits.

17-07-09 The Town
stretch of the Exe is fishing well with bags up to 4kg
made up of Roach, Dace, Perch and the odd Chub. Maggot or
caster fished on the stick or waggler is the way to go. The
tidal Exe at Countess wear has been doing good bags of
Dace, Bream, Mullet and roach. Its possible to put together
bags of over 8kg , heavy feeding is necessary to get the
fish feeding then use a stick or waggler with maggot or
caster. The Exe is up and carrying
a fair bit of colour after this rain. On
the cooler days and evenings pike are responding well to
surface lure's. The pictures beside are of a few fish
taken on a recent trip we had. Around 20 pike hit are
surface lures that night !
www.furzebraylakes.co.uk
The North Devon and
Somerset coast is producing Rays and Smoothhounds. Hopes
Nose and Berry head both in Torbay are fishing well for
mackerel, Garfish and Wrasse. Black bream, Gurnard and

10-07-09 The Exe
still fishing well, it will fish even better if we get a
bit of rain. Furzebray
Lakes Bob Lewington rounded of last weeks fishing
with a catch of four fine carp, a 20lb 4oz mirror two at
15lb and a 17lb mirror. Mr Twemlow on holiday in Lake View

carp to 17lb. others in on the action included Richard
Jordon with three doubles, Neil Sercombe with a 15lb
5oz & 16lb and Dave Fewings 15lb mirror. The change in
the weather to low pressure has brought the fishing to
life as the carp are feeding well after spending days just
cruising the surface in the hot weather. Most of these
fish where caught with pop ups over Furzebray boilies at
£8.50kg also pop ups available £5 per pack.
www.furzebraylakes.co.uk

25-06-09 The Exe
has fished well for opening week with good bags of Dace
being taken along with Roach and a few Chub. On the Tidal stretch
of the Exe bags of Dace, Roach, Bream and Mullet have been
reported plenty of loose feed is the key to building up a
good bag !
www.furzebraylakes.co.uk
Furzebray Report ! Some
nice summer weather has brought out the anglers but it has
also encouraged the carp to spawn this put an end to the
good fishing for a week as the carp spent all the time
thrashing a bought in the reeds, then the weather changed
and we had a thunder storm and torrential rain. When the
rain stopped the lake was steaming and the carp went mad,
Tony could not resist it any more and took his
fishing rods into swim one, a small PVA bag filled with
crushed Furzebray boilies and a boilie as bait had
one aborted run on his first rod a 12lb mirror on his
second and before he could return the fish a 16lb mirror
was on his third rod all within 15 minutes when he had to
run for cover as the lightning and rain came again.
Fishing has been good of late with Phil Stanley landing a
nice Mirror at 18lb 10oz and a leather at 17lb with
the best carp caught today Thursday at 17lb
2oz. Mr Tremlow arrived for his fishing holiday last
Saturday and got stuck right into three nice carp on his
first evenings fishing. Please
would anglers who have booked and find they can not make
it please phone and let us know so that other anglers can
fish and not be disappointed. Thank you for your
co-operation. Still the
same on the sea front with Smoothhounds being caught off
all the usual marks now .Mackerel are pretty much
everywhere. Cod and conger being taken on the charter
boats so get out there if you can. A few Black Bream being

18-06-09 The river
is finally open so with a bit of colour in it it should
fish well, we will have to wait a see ! Bream,Tench

still willing to take lures if you can fish your lures
through the weed !! Carp
now willing to take surface baits from most venues now the
water temperature is up. Try the fly rod if the venue will
allow you.
www.furzebraylakes.co.uk
Smoothhounds should be caught off
all the usual marks now, the one's beside were taken on a
recent trip to Bossington. Mackerel are on most beaches

best results. Cod and conger being taken on the charter

12-06-09 Everybody
is getting ready for the rivers to open on Tuesday

seems to be patchy at the moment with reports of
Bream,Tench and Silvers from most parts. Carp being caught
from the lime kilns area.
www.furzebraylakes.co.uk
Plenty of mackerel around, they
have been off Dawlish sea wall most of this week with the
evening high tides. Mackerel can now be caught from most
beaches and rock marks. Good thornback ray fishing to be
had up the North Coast try the marks around Weston super
mare. Smoothhounds around in very good numbers now try
Branscombe or Seaton on the South Coast or the rock marks
round Westwood Ho on the North Coast. Bass being caught on

Some good fishing has been had
over the last week and the carp have been spawning with
the nice weather. Notable catches have been made by Phil
Stanley landing five Doubles to 18lb. another
angler landed a 18lb 10oz two tone mirror along with two
more nice doubles. Martin Williams ( Mario) landed three
more the best being his PB on Furzebray Carp Lake a 17lb

these fish have shown some remarkable growth rates 4/6lb
in a year. How many twenties are there ? how big is the
common caught last July at 22lb and its mate another
common stocked at the same time similar weight never
caught ? we will have to wait and see !!! Canal
seems to be patchy at the moment with reports of
Bream,Tench and Silvers from most parts. Carp being caught
from the lime kilns area. The pike are still
active everywhere, the fish opposite weighed 21lb 12oz and
was the best of 21 Pike land by James Moore and Mark Wills
on a recent fly fishing trip to Chew Valley Lakes. Still
plenty of mackerel around on
the local beaches. Bass now being caught from most
place's. The Cod
fishing on the wrecks
and rough ground is on top form at the moment.

The fishing this week has been
a bit patchy which I am sure is partly due to the
large hatches of insects in the lake, but as the weather
has changed over the weekend so the fishing has
improved. Gary and his family visited the lake for the
first time and landed two lovely mirror carp one being a
new PB of 16.5lb. Dave Fewings had a busy night on
Saturday landing 3 doubles from peg 4. Fishery manager
Tony spent a few hours on Saturday afternoon fishing
from peg two and landed a stunning 17lb starburst
mirror. Late on Sunday another angler landed a well
marked 15lb Mirror only a hour after arriving. All the
fish this week have been falling to Furzebray's boilies
over pellet.

02-04-09 The
Exeter Canal is still on top form with good bags of
Roach, Rudd, and Tench. Fishing the feeder with red maggot
or caster hook baits is the way to build a good bag up. Again the Swing
Bridge to M5 motorway bridge seems to be the best
section. The bream seem to have moved away from the Kilns
so it could be worth a walk along the canal to see if you
can find the shoal. If you
want some good sport get along to the canal with a lure
rod and catch a few pike now that they are more active !
The photos are of two fish Jim and myself had in a short
evening session in the week. We had five in total before
we lost the light. Please remember
to take a landing net and unhooking mat and suitable
unhooking tools. With all this warm weather we
have had, the wrasse are more active so get along to your
nearest rock mark and have a go at these great fighters,
Small eyed ray have started to show on all the usual South
and North Devon coast marks. Mackerel have been reported
off Budleigh and Chesil. Dogfish and pout are still present.
Peeler crab stocks have improved in the shop a
bit now so please order
your bait to avoid disappointment (01392 436404) That goes
for all live sea bait, Rag and Lug.

The
Exeter Canal is still providing good sport with bags of
Roach, Rudd, Bream and Tench fishing the tip or pole is
working with maggot or corn hook baits. Again the Swing
Bridge to M5 motor way bridge seems to be the best
section. Lures are worth a
go now as the pike are becoming more active a few fish are
still being caught on dead baits best fish of the week was
23lb. With the settled weather we

19-03-09 The
Exeter Canal is still providing good sport with bags of
Roach, Rudd, Bream and Tench fishing the tip or pole is
working with maggot or corn hook baits. The canal is the venue
to fish now the river is closed. Pike
still be caught on dead baits but lure's should provide
some good sport as well.
Furzebray Lakes report, At last
the weather is getting better for fishing as the water
starts to warm up in the spring sunshine. After only 15
days for being stocked, 13 year old Charlotte Hermitage
from Exeter landed the 27lb mirror carp using maggots,
she also landed one of 9lb 8oz. Two mirror carp weighing
16lb and 19lb where taken from swim 8 fishing over a bed
of corn, and on Monday Mr Birmingham landed a 16lb fish
at the same time as another angler landed a 16lb 9oz
mirror from peg 9 all the fish have been reported as
being in pristine condition.

For more info and how to book a swim on the lake. Good Pollock still on the
wrecks if you can get out to them. Plaice have started to
show on the Skerries bank. There has
been the odd Bass and Mackerel showing from the local
beaches but they should start to show in better numbers if
this weather continues to warm up apart from that its still the usual Pout and
Dogfish. Peeler crab stocks have improved in the shop a
bit now so please order
your bait to avoid disappointment (01392 436404) That goes

Tench and Bream showing well on the Exeter canal at the
Lime Kilns Feeder fishing red maggot or caster is the best
approach. EDAA had a sweep stake at the weekend with 13
anglers fishing top rod of the day was Brian Sussex who
had a total bag weight of 13kilo 55g made up of Tench and
Bream. Alan Nicholls from Exeter Angling Centre fished the
feeder mid week in the kilms and had a good bag of Tench
and Bream on red maggot. Good Pollock still on the
wrecks if you can get out to them. Thornback rays starting
to make a showing on both North and South coast. There has
been the odd Bass and Mackerel showing from the local
beaches apart from that its still the usual Pout and
Dogfish. Peeler crab stock are starting to
improve in the shop now the weather warms up please order
your bait to avoid disappointment (01392 436404) That goes

Furzebray Carp Lakes have just
taken delivery of two new fish weighed in at 26lb 8oz

strain and should hopefully be pushing the 30lb barrier

Furzebray stock of 20lb + fish into double figures

06-03-09 With all the rain and
snow melt the Exe is up with a lot of colour ! The Culm
will be coloured as well. But before the river rose a few
chub and roach were taken on the stick float with maggot
hook baits. The Exeter canal is still producing Tench, Bream and Silvers from the lime kilns to M5 motor way bridge
the tip or pole seems to be the way with maggot or corn
hook baits. The whole canal should still produce pike to dead baits and lures.
Local angler Dave Sellick Had a great catch of Tench and
Silvers (see photo) from the canal The first of the Mackerel have started to show
,
Whiting, Pouting and Dogfish should be around on all the
local beaches. Hopefully as the weather warms up the sea
fishing should improve. could be worth targeting a few
early rays from local beaches and up North Devon if you
want to drive. Peeler crab stock are starting to
improve in the shop now the weather warms up please order
your bait to avoid disappointment (01392 436404) That goes
for all live sea bait Rag and Lug.

26-02-09 The Exe is back to
its winter level with very little colour ! The Culm is
on top form at the moment with good bags of quality Roach,
Dace and a few Chub mixed in. Stick float with maggot
seems to be the best approach. The Exeter canal is producing
good bags of Tench, Bream and Silvers from the lime kilns to M5 motor way bridge
the tip or pole seems to be the way with maggot or corn
hook baits. The whole canal is still
producing pike to dead baits and lures. Plaice have
started to show from chesil and the south hams beaches.
The first of the Mackerel have started to show in Torbay,
Whiting, Pouting and Dogfish should be around on all the
local beaches. Peeler crab is still in short
supply but hopefully as the weather warms up we should
start to see a few more in the shop !

20-02-09 The Exe is nearly back to
its winter level with just a little bit of colour looks
good for a few fish though ! The Exeter canal is still
producing pike to dead baits. Tench and bream are
starting to show from the canal now and as the month
goes on the catches of these fish should improve best
area to look at is the lime kilns to M5 motor way bridge
section of the canal. Again from reports the sea fishing at the moment
appears to be whiting, pouting and dogfish with the odd
codling from the Bristol channel and chesil. Floundering
could still be worth ago in the Exe or the Teign. Now's
the time to target the big thornback rays in the Bristol
channel or south hams estuaries with crab or fish
baits being the best. Peeler crab is still in short
supply but hopefully as the weather warms up we should
start to see a few more in the shop !

16-02-09 The Exe and the Culm look
in tip top
condition today. Ian Taylor from EAC had a
good day on the Culm on Sunday having a mixed bag of
Roach, Dace, Trout and Chub. Bread and maggot being the
top baits on the day. The Exeter canal is still
producing pike to dead baits and as the water temp rises
lure's will come in to their own. Sea fishing at the moment
appears to be whiting, pouting and dogfish but hopefully
as the month progresses things should improve. If you
can get on to one of the many charter boats that work
around the south west the wreck fishing is on top form
at the moment with plenty of double figure Pollock
around I enjoyed a great day afloat aboard Samuel
Irvin out of Dartmouth were between 3 of us we boated 23
Pollock between 8lb - 16lb 8oz all taken on soft
plastics.
