Happy new year to all our customers! Our apologies for the lack of recent reports, but as you are probably aware, the weather has been against us somewhat!

The cold snap has made angling difficult across the board, however, those anglers who have braved the conditions have had some good catches from commercial waters, (after a spot of ice breaking!) Sea anglers have been taking advantage of the influx of channel Whiting, from local beaches, all the way up to Chesil beach.

27/10/09

There has not been many reports from the river in the last few weeks. But it should still fish well especially after a bit of rain.

People are starting to pike fish now the weed has died back enough to present lure's and bait they are reporting pike up to low doubles. The Basin has fished well with bags off Silvers up to 20lb as the temperature falls  the basin should come on form even more.

The New lakes are taking shape down by Double Locks so take a walk down and have a look.

www.furzebraylakes.co.uk

Chesil beach is on form at the moment with Cod between 4lb - 8lb being the average weight Top bait for the Cod will be Lug and Crab cocktails. Whiting starting to show from most the usual marks, they will take most baits.

Flounder and Bass being caught in the estuary best place's to look are Exton, Lympstone and Exmouth seafront (by Clock tower) Peeler or Rag being top baits.

Check out www.deepsea.co.uk for Charter boat place's.

Peeler crab stocks have improved in the shop. So please order your bait to avoid disappointment (01392 436404) That goes for all live sea bait, Rag and Lug.

We don't send live bait in the post

The Tidal Exe has fished well in the last few weeks with bags of Dace up to 7kg, a few pints of white maggot will get the fish feeding the waggler or stick seems to be the best approach.

The canal is still a bit weedy but with these cooler evenings pulling in the weed should start to dye back. There are a few reports of pike up to low doubles being taken on dead baits and lure's.

The New lakes are taking shape now down by Double Locks.

The Town and Tidal stretch of the Exe should be fishing well again now the river is out of flood. So try the stick or waggler.

The fishing over the last three weeks has produced some good catches including another new 20lb+ fish, which was landed by Steve Whitworth. Dave Fewings landed a furzebray pb mirror of 19lb 8oz and a smaller fish on a quick overnighter in peg 2. The Noakes party enjoyed  some good fishing on there stay  landing 13 fish to 16lb 8oz, and i'm told they enjoyed several evenings on pads pool catching lots of small rudd and carp.. The end of the month has seen fewer anglers visit the lake as once again the rain comes!!! But the few that  braved the rain have caught, Mr Mills landed 3 fine commons to 14lb 10oz, and Nick Barr landing one of our fine fully scaled mirrors at 14lb 12oz.

The tidal Exe at Countess wear has been doing good bags of Dace, Bream, Mullet and roach. Its possible to put together bags of over 8kg , heavy feeding is necessary to get the fish feeding then use a stick or waggler with maggot or caster.

The Exe is up and carrying a fair bit of colour after this rain.

On the cooler days and evenings pike are responding well to surface lure's. The pictures beside are of a few fish taken on a recent trip we had. Around 20 pike hit are surface lures that night !

Furzebray Report ! Some nice summer weather has brought out the anglers but it has also encouraged the carp to spawn this put an end to the good fishing for a week as the carp spent all the time thrashing a bought in the reeds, then the weather changed and we had a thunder storm and torrential rain. When the rain stopped the lake was steaming and the carp went mad, Tony could not resist it any more and took  his fishing rods into swim one, a small PVA bag filled with crushed Furzebray boilies and a  boilie as bait had one aborted run on his first rod a 12lb mirror on his second and before he could return the fish a 16lb mirror was on his third rod all within 15 minutes when he had to run for cover as the lightning and rain came again. Fishing has been good of late with Phil Stanley landing a nice Mirror at 18lb 10oz and a leather at 17lb  with the best carp caught  today  Thursday at 17lb 2oz. Mr Tremlow arrived for his fishing holiday last Saturday and got stuck right into three nice carp on his first evenings fishing. Please would anglers who have booked and find they can not make it please phone and let us know so that other anglers can fish and not be disappointed. Thank you for your co-operation.

The Exeter Canal is still on top form with good bags of Roach, Rudd, and Tench. Fishing the feeder with red maggot or caster hook baits is the way to build a good bag up. Again the Swing Bridge to M5 motorway bridge seems to be the best section. The bream seem to have moved away from the Kilns so it could be worth a walk along the canal to see if you can find the shoal.

If you want some good sport get along to the canal with a lure rod and catch a few pike now that they are more active ! The photos are of two fish Jim and myself had in a short evening session in the week. We had five in total before we lost the light.

Please remember to take a landing net and unhooking mat and suitable unhooking tools.

With all this warm weather we have had, the wrasse are more active so get along to your nearest rock mark and have a go at these great fighters, Small eyed ray have started to show on all the usual South and North Devon coast marks. Mackerel have been reported off Budleigh and Chesil. Dogfish and pout are still present.

There has been the odd Bass and Mackerel showing from the local beaches but they should start to show in better numbers if this weather continues to warm up apart from that its still the usual Pout and Dogfish.

Tench and Bream showing well on the Exeter canal at the Lime Kilns Feeder fishing red maggot or caster is the best approach. EDAA had a sweep stake at the weekend with 13 anglers fishing top rod of the day was Brian Sussex who had a total bag weight of 13kilo 55g made up of Tench and Bream. Alan Nicholls from Exeter Angling Centre fished the feeder mid week in the kilms and had a good bag of Tench and Bream on red maggot.

Good Pollock still on the wrecks if you can get out to them. Thornback rays starting to make a showing on both North and South coast. There has been the odd Bass and Mackerel showing from the local beaches apart from that its still the usual Pout and Dogfish.

With all the rain and snow melt the Exe is up with a lot of colour !

The Culm will be coloured as well. But before the river rose a few chub and roach were taken on the stick float with maggot hook baits.

The Exeter canal is still producing Tench, Bream and Silvers from the lime kilns to M5 motor way bridge the tip or pole seems to be the way with maggot or corn hook baits. The whole canal should still produce pike to dead baits and lures. Local angler Dave Sellick Had a great catch of Tench and Silvers (see photo) from the canal

The first of the Mackerel have started to show , Whiting, Pouting and Dogfish should be around on all the local beaches. Hopefully as the weather warms up the sea fishing should improve. could be worth targeting a few early rays from local beaches and up North Devon if you want to drive.

The Exe is back to its winter level with very little colour !

The Culm is on top form at the moment with good bags of quality Roach, Dace and a few Chub mixed in. Stick float with maggot seems to be the best approach.

Plaice have started to show from chesil and the south hams beaches. The first of the Mackerel have started to show in Torbay, Whiting, Pouting and Dogfish should be around on all the local beaches.

Peeler crab is still in short supply but hopefully as the weather warms up we should start to see a few more in the shop !

The Exe is nearly back to its winter level with just a little bit of colour looks good for a few fish though !

The Exeter canal is still producing pike to dead baits. Tench and bream are starting to show from the canal now and as the month goes on the catches of these fish should improve best area to look at is the lime kilns to M5 motor way bridge section of the canal.

Again from reports the sea fishing at the moment appears to be whiting, pouting and dogfish with the odd codling from the Bristol channel and chesil. Floundering could still be worth ago in the Exe or the Teign. Now's the time to target the big thornback rays in the Bristol channel or  south hams estuaries with crab or fish baits being the best.

The Exe and the Culm look in tip top  condition today. Ian Taylor from EAC had a good day on the Culm on Sunday having a mixed bag of Roach, Dace, Trout and Chub. Bread and maggot being the top baits on the day.

The Exeter canal is still producing pike to dead baits and as the water temp rises lure's will come in to their own.

Sea fishing at the moment appears to be whiting, pouting and dogfish but hopefully as the month progresses things should improve. If you can get on to one of the many charter boats that work around the south west the wreck fishing is on top form at the moment with plenty of double figure Pollock around

I enjoyed a great day afloat aboard Samuel Irvin out of Dartmouth were between 3 of us we boated 23 Pollock between 8lb - 16lb 8oz all taken on soft plastics.
